Today marks Mary’s last day with the City of Vaughan

Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua issued the following statement to wish Mary Reali, Deputy City Manager, Community Services well in her retirement:

“Today, Mary Reali, Deputy City Manager, Community Services, starts to write the next chapter of her life as she retires from the City of Vaughan after 35 years of service. I want to extend my warmest and sincerest gratitude and appreciation to Mary for all she has done to serve the great citizens of Vaughan.

“Many years ago, Mary answered the call of public service. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated that she was in public service for all the right reasons. Mary always understood that before one can lead, one must serve. Through both words and deeds, she has served in a genuine, authentic and effective way. Her approach to leading a team mirrors the way she lives life, and that is with character and integrity. Her contributions to the City and the many positions she has held are a testament to her commitment and dedication to Vaughan – a place she proudly calls home.

“In February 2020, Mary was entrusted by Council to serve in the Corporation's top administrator role, as Acting City Manager. Shortly thereafter, Mary found herself steering our administration through the uncharted waters of a global pandemic. With Mary's guidance and support, staff undertook several key initiatives to help citizens and businesses weather the unprecedented storm brought on by COVID-19.

“Mary has also done an outstanding job supporting the transition of Jim Harnum, who assumed the role of Vaughan’s City Manager on August 17. We all look forward to working closely together to plan for our City's bright and promising future.

“In closing, I want to offer my sincere congratulations to Mary as she enters this new phase of her personal journey and wish her all the best for this next exciting chapter. She will be dearly missed.”
