Mayor Bevilacqua celebrates ‘Project of the Year’ award for Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Mobility Hub
Ontario Traffic Council recognizes excellence in transportation planning
The following is a statement delivered by Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua to celebrate the City of Vaughan winning the Ontario Traffic Council’s Project of the Year Award for the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) Mobility Hub:
“The City of Vaughan has received the Ontario Traffic Council’s Project of the Year Award for the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Mobility Hub. This award recognizes excellence in the field of transportation planning, and is given to projects that display innovation, support sustainability and contribute to quality of life.
“The VMC Mobility Hub was made possible by a partnership with the Toronto Transit Commission, York Region, York Region Transit, Metrolinx and SmartCentres. With the help of these organizations, we have seamlessly integrated walking, biking and transit to create the beginnings of a sustainable multi-modal hub in the heart of Vaughan.
“This project truly exemplifies the planning and design greatness that can be achieved through the collaborative efforts of all levels of government, transit agencies and landowners. I offer my congratulations to everyone involved in receiving this honour.
“Our staff continue to prove themselves to be sought after, respected and trusted city-building partners. We have an incredible team of staff working throughout multiple departments who are helping our emerging downtown reach new and unprecedented heights. This award represents the commitment of our Planning team to achieving a high standard of Service Excellence.
“As one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Canada, the City of Vaughan is committed to providing the highest level of service to our residents. We continue to make long-term investments to ensure we have reliable infrastructure and public transit that breaks gridlock and moves goods, service and people to where they need to be.
“The VMC is being built and planned to be an inclusive and welcoming downtown – a place where no one is left behind – where residents are welcomed, invited and encouraged to share and celebrate their culture for everyone to experience, appreciate and enjoy.”
