Mayor Bevilacqua congratulates Ontario’s new Premier
The City of Vaughan will continue working closely with the Province to deliver on its vision for the future
The following is a statement
delivered by Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua following the results of the Ontario
election on June 7, 2018:
“On
behalf of the City of Vaughan, I wish to congratulate Premier-designate Doug
Ford on forming the next Ontario government that will lead the province through
to 2022. Our citizens will be represented at Queen’s Park by three Members of
Provincial Parliament and I wish to further extend my congratulations to the city’s
MPPs: Stephen Lecce (King-Vaughan); Gila Martow (Thornhill); and Michael
Tibollo (Vaughan-Woodbridge).
“Vaughan
has strong relationships across all levels of government. Our citizens have
benefitted from our positive, ongoing relationship with Queen’s Park and we
expect the momentum, that has helped lead Vaughan’s evolution into a truly
world-class city, to continue.
“Our
municipality’s remarkable growth over the past eight years demonstrates what we
can accomplish when we work together. Vaughan’s city-building initiatives
remain at the forefront of our bold vision for the future. It’s a future made
brighter by transformational investments in projects like the Mackenzie Vaughan
Hospital, which will be the first hospital in Canada to feature fully
integrated “smart” technology, the recent start of construction on the
6.6-kilometre Highway 427 Expansion, the opening of the subway to Vaughan and
our trend-setting downtown – the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre.
“Today
is also a reminder that elections remain the bedrock of our democracy. I am
encouraged to see that Vaughan residents actively engaged in the political
process. Decisions made by our elected representatives impact our everyday
lives and it is imperative that we all make our voices heard.
“In
the weeks and months that follow this result, myself, Council and City of
Vaughan administration will continue working on behalf of our citizens to
ensure the continuation of provincial investments that are critical to our
shared success.”
