Mayor Bevilacqua congratulates Ontario’s new provincial government
The City of Vaughan
looks forward to working with Premier Doug Ford and the newly named cabinet
The following is a statement delivered by Vaughan
Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua following today’s transition of power and the naming of
Premier Doug Ford’s cabinet:
“Following today’s official transition of power, on behalf of the City of Vaughan, I wish to congratulate Ontario’s 26th Premier, Doug Ford, the entire caucus, the new provincial cabinet and the three MPPs representing Vaughan.“I am very encouraged to see that in the new government, Vaughan and all of York Region will have a strong voice at the cabinet table, with the appointments of MPP Michael Tibollo (Vaughan-Woodbridge) as Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services, MPP Christine Elliott (Newmarket-Aurora) Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, and Deputy Premier and MPP Caroline Mulroney (York-Simcoe) Attorney General and Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs.“I would like to further recognize MPP Stephen Lecce (King-Vaughan) on being appointed as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Infrastructure and MPP Gila Martow (Thornhill) as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Labour.“It is my hope, and that of Members of Vaughan Council, that the debate and decision-making by our elected representatives remain positive and productive – always placing the needs of citizens first.“While this four-year term represents an exciting opportunity for a Premier Ford-led government, it will also be a key period in the renaissance already underway in the City of Vaughan. Over the next four years, Canada’s first smart hospital in Vaughan will open its doors to our growing community and the vision set in place for our exciting new downtown – the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre – will continue to take shape. As a city, we also look forward to continued investments in economic and social infrastructure. The expansion of Highway 427 will provide access to more markets and greater opportunities for Vaughan citizens, as will continuing work toward the start of construction on the Yonge Subway Extension.“These accomplishments will be the culmination of hard work, collaboration and community spirit. As a city, we look forward to sharing that success with our provincial partners.”KEY FACTS
