Mayor Bevilacqua honours service members on Remembrance Day

All City of Vaughan flags flown at half-mast to remember and thank everyone who has served Canada at home and abroad

The following is a statement by Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, to honour current and former service members on the occasion of Remembrance Day:

“Today we acknowledge the courage, bravery and sacrifice of everyone who has served our country.

“This year, as we mark 100 years since the end of the First World War, we remember the strong, resilient and heroic soldiers who protected Canada with unwavering courage.

“By pausing to remember, we are saying thank you and that we will never forget the veterans who experienced the hardships of war and conflict, and the individuals who serve in peace-keeping efforts.

“We must all recognize that the liberty and opportunities we have today came at a great cost.

“On November 1, for the fourth year in a row, the City of Vaughan, with the help of the community, created a Poppy Wall mural to commemorate those who have given so much for Canada.

“I thank all those who contributed a message to our Poppy Wall to recognize and honour the service people who have safeguarded the freedoms we cherish.

“Thank you to the heroes who have done so much for our country, and I salute the people who continue to serve this great nation.

“Lest We Forget.”
