Mayor Bevilacqua launches Guardians of our Government public campaign
Recognizing City staff responding
to COVID-19
The
following is a statement by Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua:
“During these
extraordinary times, City of Vaughan employees are demonstrating remarkable
efforts. They are heroes among us. We are grateful for their commitment to
safeguard the health and well-being of citizens, businesses and families to
break the transmission of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
“This past long weekend
was a reminder of the essential services provided by all workers. I want to
personally thank all these individuals for sacrificing time away from loved
ones to serve the needs of our community.
“For these reasons, I
am proud to launch the Guardians of our Government initiative.
“This new public
information campaign is about showing appreciation. Using our many
communications channels, we will share the countless stories about City workers
who demonstrate the power of teamwork, tenacity and tireless commitment.
“Guardians of our
Government coincides with National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, which
is currently underway. This occasion recognizes the vital work provided by
communications operators. These individuals have vital responsibilities,
including helping to keep our firefighters informed of evolving situations,
respond to emergencies and return home safely at the end of each shift.
“As a reminder, we all
have a role to play in protecting our city’s guardians. Ignoring self-isolation
or physical distancing advice can have devastating effects and endanger lives.
Only go out if necessary to pick up groceries, prescriptions, or to attend a
medical appointment.
“By working together,
we will emerge stronger.”
