Mayor joined 400 students to kick off annual city cleanup
Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua issued the following statement following the 20-Minute Makeover event at Forest Run Public School:
“This year’s 20-Minute Makeover serves as a reminder to everyone that environmental stewardship is one of our most important shared responsibilities as a City. It is a meaningful example of our commitment to adopt environmentally friendly practices that will help preserve the future of our emerging world-class city.
“By taking 20 minutes out of our day, we can express how important it is to keep our neighbourhoods and parks clean.
“The City is actively engaged in numerous events, including Earth Hour and Curbside Giveaway, that educate our residents about the positive impact of maintaining a green community.
“As a City, we are continuously working together to create a healthier and more environmentally sustainable community for current and future generations.
“I am also pleased to report that more than 22,000 trees have been planted as part of the City’s tree replacement plan. Additionally, we recently opened the 900-acre North Maple Regional Park with two artificial turf fields which are built to FIFA 1-Star standards.
“Our residents are responding favourably to these achievements, along with many more. The results of the City’s 2018 Citizen Satisfaction Survey indicate an impressive 90 per cent of citizens are satisfied with our maintenance of parks and greenspaces.
“It is important that we continue to motivate and inspire the role models of tomorrow.
“I want to thank the faculty and administration at Forest Run Public School for their efforts to educate and engage students in waste reduction, recycling and sustainability.
“I am also grateful to the students, volunteers and eco-monitors who generously offered their time to make today’s event successful.
“Our City has a remarkable record to be proud of and we have only just begun. Working together, we are safeguarding a healthier, greener environment that will elevate the quality of life for all residents, businesses and visitors to Vaughan.”
