The following statement was issued by Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua after a special presentation during the May 18 Council meeting:
“I am
pleased to congratulate the Events team in the City of Vaughan's Recreation
Services department for winning six achievement awards from Festivals and
Events Ontario (FEO).
"The
City received FEO 2020 Achievement Awards for its 2020 Vaughan Celebrates
Canada Day; 2020 Vaughan Celebrates Concerts in the Park; Commemorating the
naming of the Jean Augustine Complex & District Park and the official
presentation of the Key to the City to the Honourable Jean Augustine; 2020
Volunteer Recognition Awards Ceremony; 2020 City of Vaughan Christmas Tree
Lighting Ceremony; and the 2020 City of Vaughan Menorah Lighting.
"As
part of our measured, responsible and disciplined approach in responding to
COVID-19, the City of Vaughan has transformed our programs and offerings to
ensure we continue to deliver Service Excellence to citizens and businesses.
Despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, the City's Events team
continues to curate robust programs that remain widely popular and beautifully
showcase the very best of what Vaughan has to offer.
"Reinvigorating
the City's award-winning events program has been no easy task. Yet, thanks to
our staff's hard work and dedication, we have been able to engage and entertain
residents from the safety and comfort of home. From delivering our first-ever
virtual Canada Day celebration to recognizing the ongoing efforts of Vaughan's
remarkable volunteers, celebrating Christmas and Chanukah, and honouring the
outstanding contributions and life's work of Jean Augustine, I am confident we
can all agree that regardless of the hurdles of the past year, these events and
more have brought the community together and helped spread joy.
"I
want to take this opportunity to share my sincerest gratitude and appreciation
to our Events team for identifying creative and innovative opportunities to
roll out virtual events since the onset of COVID-19. Thank you for all your hard
work in organizing these remarkable annual events that have helped to raise the
profile of our city.”
