The Rutherford and Maple GO Mobility On-Request Pilot Project makes commuting in Vaughan even easier

Vaughan commuters: the City’s Rutherford and Maple GO Mobility On-Request Pilot Program is expanding to serve you better! Launched this May in partnership with Metrolinx and York Region Transit (YRT), this new on-demand rideshare program makes it even easier for you to commute to and from the Rutherford and Maple GO stations. And now, additional service areas in the Vaughan community are being added!

Areas of operation are now as follows:

  • Northern boundary: Teston Road from Keele Street to Bathurst Street.
  • Southern boundary: Highway 7 from the GO railway to Bathurst Street.
  • Eastern boundary: Bathurst Street from Teston Road to Highway 7.
  • Western boundary: Keele Street from Teston Road to Rutherford Road, along the GO railway down to Highway 7.

View the map at vaughan.ca/MOR to see if you live within the service area. Boundaries may continue to be expanded further as the pilot project advances.

Interested in this new service? Take a survey to sign up. A link to download the Mobility On-Request app will be sent to registered participants. Through the app, you can request a pick-up from your desired starting location and a drop-off at either the Rutherford or Maple GO station. The ride will be facilitated by a YRT-operated vehicle, free of charge for PRESTO card holders connected to use GO service. The same request can be made at the end of the day to return home.

The hours of operation are Monday through Friday during the morning rush hour (from 6 a.m. until 9 a.m.) and the evening rush hour (from 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.). At this time, no weekend service is proposed – but it might be added if there is user demand.

Funding for this pilot program is supported by a grant from the Green Municipal Fund, a program delivered by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and funded by the Government of Canada. Additional funding has also been provided by Metrolinx in support of improved GO station access.

As Vaughan continues to grow, the City is working to advance transportation options to help keep people moving. The Mobility On-Request Pilot Project provides a unique opportunity for citizens to get to the Rutherford and Maple GO stations without having to drive and look for a parking spot.

The Mobility On-Request Pilot Program helps to:

  • understand how Vaughan residents travel.
  • determine how the City can encourage alternative commuting options outside of the traditional single-occupant vehicle.
  • test the demand for providing the Mobility On-Request service on a permanent basis.
  • encourage commuters to begin using public transit once again as pandemic restrictions are lifted and people return to the office on a more permanent basis.

The pilot will be active for one year, based on user demand.
