Register for the free Rutherford and Maple GO Mobility On-Request Pilot Project

A new service is coming soon for Vaughan commuters. In partnership with Metrolinx and York Region Transit (YRT), the City of Vaughan is piloting an on-demand rideshare program called Mobility On-Request that will make it even easier for you to commute to and from the Rutherford and Maple GO stations.

Beginning May 2022, participants will be able to download the Mobility On-Request app. Through the app, you can request a pick-up from your desired starting location and a drop-off at either the Rutherford or Maple GO station. The ride will be facilitated by a YRT-operated vehicle, free of charge for PRESTO card holders. The same request can be made at the end of the day to return home.

The hours of operation will be Monday through Friday during the morning rush hour (from 6 a.m. until 9 a.m.) and the evening rush hour (from 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.). At this time, no weekend service is proposed – but it might be added if the pilot sees a demand for it.

The initial service area will include:
  • Northern boundary: From Keele Street along McNaughton Road to Major Mackenzie Drive.
  • Southern boundary: Rutherford Road from GO Railway to Bathurst Street.
  • Eastern boundary: Bathurst Street from Rutherford Road to Major Mackenzie Drive.
  • Western boundary: Keele Street from McNaughton Road to Major Mackenzie Drive, along GO railway down to Rutherford Road.

View the map at vaughan.ca/MOR to see if you live within the service area. Boundaries may be expanded as the pilot project advances.

Funding for this pilot program is supported by a grant from the Green Municipal Fund, a program delivered by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and funded by the Government of Canada. Additional funding has also been provided by Metrolinx in support of improved GO station access.

As Vaughan continues to grow, the City is working to advance transportation options to help keep Vaughan moving. The Mobility On-Request Pilot Project provides a unique opportunity for citizens to get to the Rutherford and Maple GO stations without having to drive and look for a parking spot.

The Mobility On-Request Pilot Program will help to:
  • understand how Vaughan residents’ travel.
  • determine how the City can encourage alternative commuting options outside of the traditional single-occupant vehicle.
  • test the potential demand for providing Mobility On-Request service on a permanent basis.
  • encourage commuters to begin using public transit once again as pandemic restrictions are lifted and people begin to return to the office on a more permanent basis.

The pilot will be active for one year, based on user demand.
