New improvements to Torii Park made possible by Saputo sponsorship
Mayor Bevilacqua and Members of Council officially re-open tennis courts at Torii Park
Improvements to the
existing triple tennis courts, located at Torii Park in the Ward 3
neighbourhood of East Woodbridge, were funded in large part by a $50,000
sponsorship by Saputo, a dairy company and local employer in Vaughan.
Mayor Bevilacqua,
Members of Council and City of Vaughan staff joined corporate leaders from
Saputo, along with representatives from the Veneto Tennis Club, to formally
open the Saputo Tennis Courts. The tennis court has been refurbished with penetration
asphalt, which is meant to be softer on the feet, acrylic surfacing, new nets
and posts, and a new fence meshing.
As part of Saputo’s
commitment to be an engaged, responsible and leading corporate citizen, the
company established the Saputo Legacy Program – an initiative to invest in
communities where it operates by helping fund the improvement of sport and
health facilities. Local projects, like Torii Park, enable Saputo to carry out its
efforts to encourage families to be physically active and make meaningful
contributions in communities where employees work, play and call home.
The sponsorship was co-ordinated
by Vaughan’s Municipal Partnership Office, which is responsible for generating
strategic non-tax based revenues for the City through Corporate Partnerships.
The goal of the partnership office is to enhance City programs and facilities.
The total cost of the tennis court refurbishment is approximately $156,000,
with the City funding the remaining amount.
