New Recreation Guide Delivered This Weekend

​The City of Vaughan’s 2011 Spring & Summer Recreation Guide will be delivered to Vaughan homes January 28 to February 1. Included are complimentary fitness, swim and sport passes that can be found in the Your Community section of the guide.

Swimming lessons, leadership courses, sports, health and wellness, creative and performing arts, and general interest programs for all ages and abilities are featured. New programs include: Have a Ball and Grow with Me for preschoolers; Archery for children; Can-Bike Junior Cycling Instructors Training Program and Breakdancing for youth; and Theatrix and Bocce for persons with disabilities.

The City is offering special promotions and incentives, including half-price recreational swims for children and youth, free leisure activities during Recreation and Parks Month in June and monthly prize draws.
 
During the summer school break, children and youth ages three to 17 can choose from a variety of preschool, outdoor adventure, recreational, sports, visual and performing arts, science and computer, specialty, leadership and special needs day camps. New summer day camps include: Art Zone, Super Sluggers, Sportz Stars, Strike a Chord! and Trip Takers.
 
Pay-as-you-go and membership options for aquafitness, swimming, sports, skating, shinny hockey and fitness are also listed. New this year are Zumba and Pilates classes, free for fitness members and drop-in rates for non-members.
 
The guide has information on the City’s family-friendly outdoor amenities, including parks, splash pads, walking and bicycle paths, hiking trails, sports fields, playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts, and the Thornhill Outdoor Pool. Also highlighted are community events which include: the R.A.V.E. Awards in February; Vaughan Youth Week and Open Juried Art Exhibition in May; Accessibility Awareness Week, Recreation and Parks and Seniors’ Months in June; Canada Day Concert and Concerts in the Park throughout the summer. Other information featured in the guide includes City Playhouse Theatre productions, community group listings and seasonal recreation employment and volunteer opportunities.
 
For general and aquatic programs, residents can register for both spring and summer sessions at the same time.
