Join the City at a virtual event on Sept. 11 to mark this solemn occasion

On Sept. 11, 2001, the world changed forever. On that day, four U.S. planes were hijacked, two of which were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Now, 20 years later, the City of Vaughan, Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service (VFRS) and guests will pay tribute to the nearly 3,000 civilians and first responders who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks and aftermath.

On Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, the City will air its 9/11 virtual ceremony beginning at approximately 8:40 a.m. Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua will deliver remarks, the flags will be lowered to half-staff and a moment of silence will be observed. Citizens can tune into the event at vaughan.ca/live.

That evening, Vaughan City Hall will be illuminated to commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and honour the fallen.

Citizens are encouraged to leave a message of remembrance in the City’s virtual guest book.
