April 9, 2013

Hundreds of residents attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council on Saturday, April 6, to mark the official opening of the new Vellore Village Fitness Centre.

The fitness centre is part of the Vellore Village Community Centre at 1 Villa Royale Avenue. It is on the west side of Weston Road, north of Rutherford Road. The facility is the sixth City-operated fitness facility located at Vaughan community centres.

"As a growing City, we are committed to making investments that help foster a healthy community," said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. The two-level, 10,000-square-foot state-of-the-art fitness centre features a cycling studio, LifeFitness cardio and strength training equipment, free weights and sauna. Fitness classes include Pilates, spinning, boot camp, zumba, yoga and aquafitness. Staff at the new fitness centre are qualified to work with beginners and serious fitness enthusiasts.

Green design or sustainability features of the new building include high-performance windows, a heat recovery system, direct and indirect lighting with occupancy sensors, and water conserving landscaping and plumbing fixtures.
