City’s Canada Day Celebration kicks off at 5 p.m. on July 1

The City of Vaughan’s first-ever virtual Canada Day celebration, presented by Greenpark Group, will be taking place in “One Week” on Wednesday, July 1. The decision to host an online event this year allows residents and viewers to mark this popular and much-anticipated event safely from the comfort of their homes. Headlining this year’s festivities is the JUNO award-winning and Grammy-nominated group Barenaked Ladies.

The event will be emceed by 104.5 CHUM Radio host Ashley Greco and will feature family-friendly performances from local artists, dance groups and entertainment, such as The Mini Pop Kids, The Free Label, Kreative in Dance Styles, comedian Susan Stewart and the Spin Starlets with violinist Dr. Draw.

Earlier this month, the City asked residents and businesses to send in three- to seven-second video messages wishing the community a “happy Canada Day.” These recordings will be featured during the online festivities.

The event will be streamed on Wednesday, July 1 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at vaughan.ca/CanadaDay. The webpage will also feature Canada Day-themed activities for school-aged children that can be downloaded, as well as the winning recipe from the #VaughanCookoff challenge and links to City services.

Viewers are encouraged to share their experience on social media throughout the celebration by tagging the City’s social media channels and using #VaughanCanadaDay2020 on:
