Order of Vaughan deadline is approaching

Submit nominations by Sept. 30 for the City’s highest honour
 
The deadline is fast approaching to submit a nomination for the 2020 Order of Vaughan. This award is the highest honour the City of Vaughan may bestow on individuals who exemplify extraordinary citizenship and better the community. Nominations will be accepted at vaughan.ca/OrderofVaughan until Wednesday, Sept. 30.
 
The Order of Vaughan recognizes acts of public service and celebrates the Spirit of Generosity of remarkable individuals who have made significant and enduring contributions to the city and its citizens. Since its inception, 42 remarkable people have been invested into the Order within the following 14 categories:
  • accessibility
  • arts and entertainment
  • athletics
  • business
  • education
  • environment
  • equity and diversity
  • health and wellness
  • media and communications
  • not-for-profit
  • philanthropy
  • public service
  • science and technology
  • spirituality 
In addition to recognizing the individuals who are bettering the city of Vaughan, the 2020 award is also an opportunity to highlight the remarkable individuals who are stepping up to help citizens, businesses and the community throughout the global COVID-19 pandemic.
 
To be eligible, a nominee must be a living person at the time of nomination and have dedicated their time, talent or resources for the betterment of Vaughan. Nominations will not be accepted for staff currently employed by the City of Vaughan, or for current elected public office holders at the federal, provincial or municipal level. Self-nominations will also not be accepted.
 
The Order of Vaughan Selection Committee will review nominations and recommend successful candidates to Council for approval. The selected individuals will be invested into the 2020 Order by Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council at an official investiture ceremony, to be announced at a later date. 
 
The Order of Vaughan was an initiative first launched by Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua in 2016 to mark Vaughan’s 25th anniversary. In its first year, 25 recipients were invested into the Order. In subsequent years – and for 2020 – up to 10 nominees may be eligible to receive the Order.
