Post-storm cleanup work continues in Vaughan

Additional crews have been deployed to clear fallen or damaged City-owned trees

The storm from last weekend left many fallen trees on roads, sidewalks and boulevards – City of Vaughan staff have quickly mobilized cleanup efforts, working extended hours and prioritizing emergencies. Approximately 580 reports of storm-damaged trees were called into Access Vaughan since May 21, and, with this number continuing to increase additional crews and contractors have been deployed with more expected to be added as they become available.

Please note, the estimated time for a complete cleanup of fallen trees throughout Vaughan is three to four weeks – this is subject to change as staff continue to assess the damage. At this time, cleanup efforts are focused on emergencies; once they are resolved, crews will return to clear debris. Your patience is appreciated while this work continues.

To report damaged or fallen City trees on public property, contact Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or accessvaughan@vaughan.ca. If you have concerns about trees on your property, please contact a licensed arborist.

Leaf and yard waste collection

As you continue to clean up from last weekend’s storm, you may have much more leaf and yard waste than usual. Weekly collection of branches, twigs and leaves continues until Friday, June 10 and then will return to the regular schedule of every other week.

Please note, due to the volume of yard waste set out following the storm, waste collection crews are completing collection later than usual in some instances. Leave your materials curbside as any incomplete routes will be picked up the following day.

Remember, waste should be placed at the curb no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before collection and no later than 7 a.m. the day of collection. This helps to reduce the chance of materials getting knocked over, blown away by wind or wet from the rain. Visit the City’s leaf and yard waste webpage for additional details.

To support your cleanup efforts after the storm, York Region is also offering free yard waste drop-off at McCleary Court Community Environmental Centre until Sunday, June 5 at 130 McCleary Crt. Visit york.ca/WasteDepots for details on hours of operation.

The York Region waste depot accepts larger yard waste material – up to 30 centimetres (11.8 inches) in diameter and 1.8 metres (5.9 feet) in length. Materials such as wood, rocks, stumps and root balls are not accepted as yard waste at the waste depot. More information on yard waste requirements is available at york.ca/YardWaste
