Earth Hour, led by the World Wildlife Fund, is the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment. Since 2007, people all over the world have been turning their lights off at 8:30 p.m. on the last Saturday in March for one hour to help reduce energy consumption.
Why participate in Earth Hour? This is an opportunity to help raise awareness for climate change, promote environmental stewardship and adopt sustainable behaviours in your daily life. Learn how you can be more green at home, school or work with these simple tips.
Alectra Utilities reported that in 2024, Vaughan reduced its energy consumption by 3.3 percent during Earth Hour. By turning off the lights between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., Vaughan residents and businesses reduced energy use by approximately 4.8 megawatts – enough to power several hundred homes. Let’s work together to conserve even more this year!
