Property taxes are due by May 29

The deadline for the third instalment of the City of Vaughan’s 2024 interim property taxes is Wednesday, May 29. Do you know all the payment options available to you? There are many easy and convenient ways to pay your bill without stepping foot in Vaughan City Hall.

 

As all City facilities are cashless, here are other easy and convenient ways property owners can pay their property tax bills:

  • Pre-authorized payment plans, including a six-instalment and a 10-instalment option.

  • Post-dated cheques made payable to the City of Vaughan that correspond with the amounts and due dates printed on the tax stubs.

  • Financial institutions, either in person, through the bank machine, online or via telephone. 

  • At City Hall, placed in marked drop-off boxes at each entrance.

  • By mail, with a chequepayable to the City of Vaughan and sent in the return envelope enclosed with the tax bill.

Didn’t receive your bill? 

If you do not receive your tax bill in the mail, contact the City immediately by phone at 905-832-2281 or by email at service@vaughan.caFailure to receive a tax bill does not exempt you from paying property taxes – late payment penalties will be added

 

Interested in learning about available tax relief programs?

The Seniors, Low-Income Seniors and Low-Income Disabled Persons Property Tax Deferral program (PDF) is available and must be applied for annually by Monday, Sept. 30. Applications for the Elderly Home-Owners Tax Assistance (PDF) are now closed for the year. 

 

Bookmark the next due dates

Final property tax bills for residential and non-residential properties will be mailed out in June. Instalment due dates will also be posted to vaughan.ca/PropertyTax.

 

Want to know how property taxes are used? 

The property tax bill may come in a City of Vaughan envelope, but only less than 30 cents of every dollar stay with the City to provide all municipal programs and services. Here is a breakdown of how residential property taxes are allocated:

  • 50 cents to York Region
  • 28 cents to the City of Vaughan
  • 22 cents to local school boards (Province of Ontario for education purposes)

 

Municipal services in Vaughan are provided by two tiers of government – the City and York Region. The City retains approximately $1,890 of an average $6,778 annual property tax bill to support critical services that residents rely on each day, including fire and rescue service; public works and road services; waste management; infrastructure replacement; maintenance of City facilities; city planning and development; Building Code enforcement; and by-law and compliance.
