The City of Vaughan’s Recreation & Culture Department was presented with the 2012 E.A. Danby Award during a ceremonial presentation at Council on Tuesday, October 30. The award is from the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO). The department received the award for its PayExpress time-entry project. The electronic PayExpress system replaces paper time sheets and automates the payroll process of more than 600 Recreation & Culture Department part-time staff with varying positions and pay rates, working at 10 community centres.
"We are honoured that AMCTO has recognized the City of Vaughan with this award,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “Our dedicated and hard-working staff are constantly seeking to achieve administrative excellence in government by identifying efficiencies and creating effective solutions.”
The AMCTO E.A. Danby award is designed to acknowledge municipalities that have demonstrated outstanding achievement through innovation, with respect to municipal management activities. AMCTO represents excellence in local government administration and has provided education, accreditation, leadership, and implementation expertise for Ontario’s municipal professionals for the past seventy years.
PayExpress was developed and implemented by Planning and Office Services in Recreation & Culture adapting existing software technology. The software requirements combine the use of a spreadsheet application, the City’s Sharepoint Intranet and a collaborative interface between departments.
“This E. A. Danby award recognizes the initiative taken by our staff,” said City Manager Clayton Harris. “I would like to thank the AMCTO for creating an award that reinforces the creative culture that we promote at the City of Vaughan.”
