PSA: New park gets a warm welcome
Vaughan celebrates official opening
of the Woodgate Pines Park
Parks are
an essential part of the community and provide a place to play, relax and spend
time with friends and family. The City of Vaughan’s newest park, Woodgate Pines
Park, has officially been welcomed to the neighbourhood.
Located at 60 Woodgate Pines Dr., the 1.79-hectare (4.42-acre) park includes
a soccer field, junior and senior playgrounds, basketball court, frisbee golf
area, a shade structure with seating and a lit pedestrian pathway.
The playgrounds were constructed using recycled material and the surface
is made of wood chips to help absorb shock and prevent injuries while playing. This
demonstrates the City’s commitment to environmental stewardship and is
consistent with Council’s priorities to promote active, safe and diverse
communities, as outlined in the 2018-2022 Term of
Council Service Excellence Strategic Plan.
To officially mark the opening, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of
Council joined the community for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, entertainment and
light refreshments.
The addition of Woodgate Pines Park continues Vaughan’s tradition of
creating outdoor areas that bring the city together, encourages recreational activity
and provides greenspaces for generations to come. The City also held official
openings for Chatfield District Park, the Agostino Park expansion and North
Thornhill District Park walkway. In July, the City held Canada Day festivities
for the first time in the new 900-acre North Maple Regional Park – when fully
complete, the park will be larger than New York City’s Central Park. The 2018 Citizen Satisfaction Survey
found that 90 per cent of residents are satisfied with the maintenance of parks
and greenspaces.
Mayor Maurizio
Bevilacqua, Councillor Marilyn Iafrate and members of staff took part in a
ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open Woodgate Pines Park.
