PSA: Vaughan is getting into the holiday spirit
Amended hours for municipal
offices and facilities
Whether you
celebrate Christmas, Chanukah or Kwanzaa – it is a great time to spend it with
friends and loved ones. Vaughan offers many places for the
entire family to enjoy:
- Drop in at a Vaughan community centre for recreational activities, such as swimming, basketball, skating and shinny hockey.
- Experience the beauty of winter. Explore our Great Walks of Vaughan and discover local neighbourhoods, nature walks and trails.
- Explore the McMichael Canadian Art Collection to see extraordinary works of art.
- Visit the Experience York Region website for events taking place throughout the region.
Please be advised of
the following City of Vaughan facility closures, alternate hours and changes in
programming for the holiday season:
Municipal facilities
- City offices at Vaughan City Hall and the Joint Operations Centre will be closed starting at noon on Tuesday, Dec. 24 to Wednesday, Jan. 1.
- Facilities will resume regular business hours on Thursday, Jan 2.
Vaughan Community Centres
- Community centre hours vary during the holidays. Visit vaughan.ca/recreation to view holiday activities schedules, including modified hours and closures on statutory holidays.
- All community centres will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 25 and Wednesday, Jan. 1.
- Holiday activities include:
- December Break Camps at Vaughan community centres from Monday, Dec. 23 to Friday, Jan. 3 (ages four to 12). Pre-register at vaughan.ca/RecOnline.
- Vaughan community centres are offering recreational swimming, skating, shinny hockey, sports, fitness classes and games rooms during the holidays.
- Free recreational skating sponsored by Tim
Hortons at arenas located at Al Palladini, Garnet A. Williams and Maple community
centres on select dates. View holiday activity

- The shelter will be open Tuesday, Dec. 24 until noon and closed Wednesday, Dec. 25 and Thursday, Dec. 26. Regular business hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. resume on Friday, Dec. 27.
- The shelter will be open Tuesday, Dec. 31 until noon and closed Wednesday, Jan. 1.
Vaughan Public Libraries
- All libraries will be closed from Tuesday, Dec. 24 at noon through to Thursday, Dec. 26.
- Regular business hours will resume on Friday, Dec. 27.
- All libraries will be closed from Tuesday, Dec. 31 at noon through to Wednesday, Jan. 1.
- Regular business hours will resume on Thursday, Jan. 2.
Waste collection
- For the weeks of Dec. 23 and Dec. 30, waste collection will be bumped to the next day for residents who usually have collection on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays only. For these two weeks, if your collection day is Wednesday, it will be moved to Thursday; Thursday collection will be moved to Friday; and Friday collection will be moved to Saturday.
- Christmas tree collection will occur the weeks of Jan. 7 and Jan. 14. Residents are reminded to put out their tree and garbage/recycling by 7 a.m. on their scheduled collection day.

- For information about holiday hours and City programs and services, please call Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281. Contact centre hours of operation during the festive closure are as follows:
- Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 31 - closed at noon.
- Friday, Dec. 27 and Monday, Dec. 30 - open from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
