Vaughan rallies around undisputed NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard

 

Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua issued the following statement after the Toronto Raptors won the 2019 NBA Finals, defeating the Golden State Warriors: 

“The Toronto Raptors made history by becoming the first-ever Canadian franchise to win the NBA Finals championship. During each game, the players demonstrated discipline, drive and determination. They have earned this victory and we are proud to celebrate their relentless efforts.
 
“I want to single out Kawhi Leonard for earning the 2019 NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award. He remains an inspiration to his teammates. And to young aspiring athletes who dream of following in his footsteps and playing professional basketball.   
 
“During the NBA Finals, the Raptors’ flag has proudly flown at City Hall. The energy, enthusiasm and optimism for the team’s players and coaches thrived throughout Jurassic Park Vaughan, where thousands of local fans gathered to cheer and support throughout this series. An event of this magnitude has united millions of people of all ages and all cultural backgrounds across Canada and in communities around the world.
 
“The City of Vaughan has a proud sports tradition that is second to none. Our community centres feature modern equipment that can help future athletes train, grow and reach higher.
