Virtual programming and events available in Vaughan throughout May

As part of Vaughan's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, the City recognizes Asian Heritage Month and Jewish Heritage Month in May through its Cultural Heritage Events Program. This month, a series of virtual events and programming will be available for citizens to learn about, share and celebrate the culture of Asian Canadians and Jewish Canadians.
 
Here is information on virtual events and programming taking place throughout the month.
 
Asian Heritage Month
 
York Regional Police (YRP) – Celebrates Asian Heritage Month
Saturday, May 15 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Together with community partners, YRP is hosting a virtual Asian Heritage Month celebration with the 2021 theme Together We Are More. The theme speaks to a vision of building an inclusive community where everyone feels that they belong.

Arcadia Live Productions performers celebrate Asian Heritage Month with a free digital performance by local cultural musicians.

Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre
The Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre offers a wide variety of Japanese cultural programs for its members and annual visitors. Learn about the history of the Japanese-Canadian community in the Moriyama Nikkei Heritage Centre. The centre serves as the gathering point for the Japanese-Canadian community.

Learn eight different movements focusing on stretching, flexibility and breathing in a relaxing manner for mental and physical health.

Jewish Heritage Month: Ontario Jewish Archives (OJA) Virtual Walking Tours
Travel back in time to an era when Kensington Market was a thriving Jewish village teeming with kosher bakeries, synagogues and social clubs. On this first-ever virtual tour, Jewish Toronto's past biographies of its former inhabitants, the sounds, Yiddish language, and religious, social and political attitudes are brought to life. Visits to the architectural gems that remain in the area today are supplemented by photographs from the holdings of the OJA as vivid reminders of a once vibrant community.
