Recreation programs
Programming begins Saturday, March 22 at all community centres, City Playhouse Theatre and the Vaughan Studios & Event Space. Here are a few highlights:
Vaughan Playschool: Junior (for ages 2½ to 3½ years old)
Designed for your little one as they start their journey towards school readiness, this program creates independence from parents and develops age-appropriate social, emotional and fine and gross motor skills. Through singing and playing, children learn about sharing, taking turns, washing up, following directions and communicating with words, all while having fun and making new friends!
- Vellore Village Community Centre on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
- Chancellor Community Centre on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
- Maple Community Centre on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
- North Thornhill Community Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Vaughan Playschool: Senior (for ages three to five years old)
Designed for the older preschooler, this program offers a more enriched, structured classroom experience that encourages independence and confidence. Preschoolers build on their cognitive, gross and fine motor skills while learning age-appropriate math, reading, writing and science, helping them become great learners!
- Al Palladini Community Centre on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon
- Maple Community Centre on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
- North Thornhill Community Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
- Father E. Bulfon Community Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Vaughan sports: Basketball training
Improve sports performance during the pre- or post-season with technical, physical and mental goal setting in this non-competitive training program that will help expand your child’s basketball knowledge and skills, including proper passing, dribbling, shooting techniques and positional play.
Junior (for ages seven to nine years old)
- Chancellor Community Centre on Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to noon
- Dufferin Clark Community Centre on Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Dufferin Clark Community Centre on Mondays from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Father E. Bulfon Community Centre on Sundays 15 from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
- Maple Community Centre on Sundays between 10:30 a.m. to noon
- Rosemount Community Centre on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
- Vellore Village Community Centre on Saturdays from 10:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
Senior (for ages 10 to 12 years old)
- Al Palladini Community Centre on Saturdays from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
- Chancellor Community Centre on Sundays from noon to 1:30 p.m.
- Father E. Bulfon Community Centre on Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Girls only training: Senior (for ages 10 to 12 years old)
- Rosemount Community Centre on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
HIGH FIVE – Principles of Healthy Child Development (for ages 10 years old and above)
This training course equips front-line leaders with the tools needed to enhance the quality of programs they are leading. It provides essential training in the HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development so leaders understand what they need to do to ensure each child’s social, emotional and cognitive needs are met. Note: This is a mandatory qualification for City of Vaughan summer camp staff.
- Al Palladini Community Centre on Saturday, May 24 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Dufferin Clark Community Centre on Sunday, May 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Garnet A. Williams Community Centre on Sunday, June 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Maple Community Centre on Sunday, June 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- North Thornhill Community Centre on Saturday, June 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Vaughan Studios & Event Space on Sunday, June 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Resume building and interview skills (for ages 13 to 16 years old)

Swim lessons and aquatic leadership courses
Don’t forget – registration for spring swim lessons and aquatic leadership courses is open and the session starts on Saturday, March 22 at all Vaughan community centre pools. Learn-to-swim programming starts at ages four months old for parents with tots and runs up to levels specifically designed for adult non-swimmers.
Training and certification in aquatic leadership courses for ages 13 years and older is aimed at preparing participants for employment as a swim instructor or lifeguard. These programs also develop essential skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, communication and critical thinking that enhance resumes, strengthen college and university applications and provide a strong foundation for any career path.
