Yesterday’s official opening of Venice Gate Park was highlighted by a ribbon-cutting ceremony as residents, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council gathered to celebrate the City’s newest green space.

“The City of Vaughan is committed to providing our residents with fantastic urban green spaces for their use and enjoyment,” said Mayor Bevilacqua. “Parks play an important role in creating livable cities and communities and provide environmental, social and economic advantages. They help to contribute to a sustainable natural environment, are gathering places where we can meet our neighbours, and attract newcomers to our great City.”

Venice Gate Park is located at 180 Trudeau Drive in Maple and is 1.52 hectares in size. It contains accessible junior and senior playgrounds, a mini soccer field, a tennis court, a shade structure, benches, bicycle racks, tree plantings and perennials. Another feature of the park are bioswales, designed to remove silt and pollution from surface runoff water.

“In Vaughan, we are committed to providing fully accessible City facilities including our recreation amenities, and Venice Gate Park is a great example of this commitment,” said Ward 3 Councillor Rosanna Defrancesca. “In addition to the accessible junior and senior playgrounds, sand has been replaced with wood carpet surfacing to further improve accessibility.”
