Shine a light on climate change
Vaughan celebrates 10th annual Earth Hour
“Earth Hour has evolved from an event into a movement that unites the world to protect the planet. The goal is to inspire people to take simple steps to reduce their energy consumption every day. As a growing city, we are proud to champion sustainability to make our community a greener place for tomorrow. I know the citizens of Vaughan care deeply about the environment – together, we can all continue to do our part and make small changes. By achieving this, we are taking real action to improve the world we live in and leave it a better place for future generations.”
The City of Vaughan will join thousands of
communities and millions of people around the world on March 25 to shine a
light on climate change. Earth Hour has become a global movement that raises
awareness and sends a powerful message that united, people can make a
difference.
Earth Hour
is celebrated by powering down and turning off the lights for one hour between
8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Since 2007, more than 7,000 cities in 172 countries and
territories have participated in the event.
The
community is invited to join Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council
for the 10th annual Earth Hour Vaughan event at City Hall on March 25 starting
at 6:30 p.m. Featured activities include candlelit yoga, night cycle ride,
lantern walk, live entertainment and Vaughan’s very own Green Hero Award
presentation.
