2022 Vaughan Urban Design Awards presented during a special ceremony


Celebrating design excellence and innovation in city building! Last night, the City of Vaughan presented its 2022 Vaughan Urban Design Awards in recognition of local development initiatives that exemplify excellence in urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, public art and environmental stewardship within the community. 

The public was invited to submit projects for consideration from May to September 2022. A jury of design industry professionals judged qualified entries on the following criteria: Significance; City Scale, Community Scale, Urban Elements, Sustainability Design; Accessibility; Compatibility, Innovation and Creativity, and Execution. 

The 2022 jury members included:

  • Meg Graham, Partner – Superkül
  • Mansoor Kazerouni, Global Director of Buildings – IBI Group
  • Adam Nicklin, Principal – PUBLIC WORK
  • Brent Raymond, Partner – DTAH 

During the special ceremony at Vaughan City Hall, six awards were presented within two different categories: 

Award of Excellence:

  • PwC – YMCA Tower 

Award of Merit:

  • Assembly Park
  • Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital
  • Maple Library Reading Garden
  • PwC – YMCA Tower, SmartVMC Bus Terminal, Transit City and PXL Gallery – Block (joint award)
  • Sisti Centre 

The event included an official welcome from Mayor Steven Del Duca and remarks from this year’s jurors. 

Every five years, the City invites urban designers, architects, landscape architects, planners, engineers, developers, contractors, landowners and the general public to submit entries for the Vaughan Urban Design Awards. Since its inception in 2008, more than 36 projects have been awarded. These award-winning initiatives contribute to the City’s efforts to enhance the quality of life and make the city a great place to live, work and play.
