Spirit of generosity soars during Mayor’s gala
Mayor
Bevilacqua expresses profound gratitude to the De Gasperis and Kohn families
for their historic $20-million donation to Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital
During the 2018 Mayor’s Gala, themed Amore
in the City, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua delivered a keynote address
highlighting the spirit of generosity that radiates throughout the city of Vaughan,
including announcing a historic $20-million donation by TACC Group and
Fieldgate Group of Companies to go toward the construction of the Giovanni De Gasperis and Eugene Kohn Learning Centre
at Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital.
This donation to the hospital is the largest to date. Mayor Bevilacqua
serves as co-chair of the Mackenzie Health Foundation’s
Exceptional Care Belongs Here Campaign
– made up of selfless, dedicated and talented individuals who are determined to
achieve the goals of the $250-million campaign.
The 2018 Mayor’s Gala took place at Universal EventSpace, with 1,000 people
in attendance. The evening included remarks by Premier-designate Doug Ford, who
was recently given a strong mandate by the people of Ontario to lead. Since
2011, the Mayor’s Gala and the Mayor’s Charity Golf Classic have raised more
than $7 million. Proceeds
from these events go to help more than 150 not-for-profit and community
organizations that provide essential services to citizens in Vaughan and
beyond. These groups are dedicated to important work that supports everyone
from youth and seniors to people with special needs and women’s centres.
Mayor Bevilacqua, who serves as Honorary Chair of the Hospice Vaughan
Campaign, also spoke of the important inroads being made with the construction
and completion of Hospice Vaughan. In the weeks ahead, the Mayor announced
there will be important and exciting news about the hospice’s ongoing progress.
In April, Mayor Bevilacqua helped break ground on the future site of this
centre for care and compassion. When complete, this new state-of-the-art
facility will be home to 10 beds and have a reach that goes far and wide into
the community.
