The City of Vaughan’s 2013 Spring & Summer Recreation Guide will be delivered to Vaughan homes by January 31. Included are free fitness, swim and sports passes found in the Your Community section of the guide.

The award–winning publication – recipient of the 2012 Parks and Recreation Ontario Award for Innovation – features leisure opportunities for preschoolers to older adults. Programs at the City’s 10 community centres range from education, language, science, technology and culinary classes, to creative and performing arts, health and wellness, sports, swimming and ice-skating. PA Day programs and March Break camps, as well as pay-as-you-go and membership options for aquafitness, swimming, sports, ice-skating, shinny hockey and fitness can be found in the guide.

During the summer school break, children and youth ages three to 16 can choose from more than 50 different one- and two-week camps, conveniently sorted by category such as outdoor adventure, recreational, sports, visual and performing arts, science and computer, leadership, special needs and water adventures. New summer day camps include: Kids A Cookin’, Hot Shots Art Studio, Six Strings Guitar Camp, Summer Theatre Spectacular, The Production Crew, Trip Takers Junior, We Got Game and Yabba Dabba Dance.

The guide has information on the City’s family-friendly outdoor amenities, including parks, splash pads, walking and bicycle paths, hiking trails, sports fields, playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts and the Thornhill Outdoor Pool, which opens June 29. Also highlighted are community events, which feature free activities, including: Vaughan Youth Week and Asian and Jewish Heritage Month in May; Accessibility Awareness Week, Recreation and Parks, Italian Heritage Month and Seniors’ Month in June; Canada Day Concert and Concerts in the Park throughout the summer.

Other information featured in the guide includes City Playhouse Theatre productions, community group listings and seasonal recreation employment and volunteer opportunities. Special promotions and incentives, such as half-price recreational swims for children and youth, and monthly prize draws are included as well.
