Mayor’s golf tournament benefits more than 150 not-for-profit organizations

Golfers hit the fairways yesterday at the Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua Annual Charity Golf Classic to raise much-needed funds for more than 150 charities, not-for-profits and community organizations. The annual event was held at Copper Creek Golf Club and the money raised goes towards providing the gift of hope to thousands of people.

Since 2011, the Charity Golf Classic -- together with the Mayor’s Gala -- has raised more than $6.6 million to help groups that provide essential services to citizens in the city of Vaughan and beyond. Proceeds from the two events have been directed to many important causes including youth, seniors, special needs and educational organizations, women’s centres, arts and cultural initiatives, and sports groups.

With a downtown core -- the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre -- rising from the ground, the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital under construction and the recent subway opening, these and many other exciting projects are changing the landscape of our growing community. It is vital to continue to move the city forward without leaving anyone behind.

QUOTE

“We have a proud tradition in the City of Vaughan of giving back to families in need, and because of this we have had a lasting positive impact on their lives. It is important to remember that we are privileged to live in this great city. We all have the power within us to contribute to the greater good. I am sincerely grateful to everyone who participated in this year’s golf tournament. Our successful fundraising campaign would not be possible without the ongoing dedication of residents and businesses who are making a difference. I also want to extend my thanks to my friend, Alectra president and CEO Brian Bentz, for chairing the tournament -- with every act of kindness and each dollar we raise, we are helping to transform lives.”
-Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua
