Vote online during the Advance Vote until Oct. 20 or in-person on Oct. 24

The City of Vaughan’s 2022 Municipal Election voting period is underway! Until Thursday, Oct. 20, you can vote online from the comfort of home or while you’re on the go by using a supported device and a stable internet connection. You can also cast your ballot at a polling station in-person on Voting Day, Monday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (please note that some locations may operate on reduced hours on Voting Day – check your Voter Information Letter for details).

Have questions? You can check out the City’s step-by-step video on the online voting process or look at some frequently asked questions below.

How do I know if I am eligible to vote?
To be eligible to vote in the 2022 Municipal Election, you must be:

  • a Canadian citizen.
  • over the age of 18.
  • either a resident of the city of Vaughan, or an owner or tenant of property within the city, or the spouse of an owner or tenant of property in Vaughan.
  • not prohibited from voting under any law.

How can I vote online?
To vote online, visit vaughan.ca/elections and click on the “VOTE” button. You must be on the Voters’ List to access the online voting platform. If you are, you should have received a Voter Information Letter in the mail. This letter includes your credentials and a secure PIN that allows you to access the Advance Vote platform. You will use this PIN to log into the platform and each step will be outlined as you move through the tool.

If you registered to vote after Sept. 7, you will not receive your Voter Information Letter in the mail. Instead, you will need to pick one up from Vaughan City Hall at 2141 Major Mackenzie Dr. or at a Voter Assistance Centre.

I don’t have access to a device or internet connection to vote online. Can I still participate in the Advance Vote?
Yes. There are several ways to participate in the Advance Vote. You can vote in-person until Oct. 20 at a Voter Assistance Centre or a Vaughan Public Libraries location. You can also cast your vote in-person at a polling station on Voting Day, which is Monday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

How much time do I have to vote online?
The online voting platform automatically restarts every 20 minutes for security purposes. If you require more than 20 minutes to complete your vote, you will need to vote at a Voter Assistance Centre or a Vaughan Public Libraries location.

I require auditory and visual assistance. Will my needs be met if I would like to participate in the online Advance Vote?
Yes, the City’s online voting platform meets the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act standards and supports a range of accessibility software. If you are voting in-person at a Voter Assistance Centre, Vaughan Public Libraries location or a polling station on Voting Day, there will be staff on-hand to assist you.

I want to vote at a polling station on Voting Day. Where do I vote and what do I need to bring with me?
If you are voting in-person on Voting Day, you will find your designated voting location on your Voter Information Letter. You must bring valid identification that contains both your name and Vaughan home address to be issued a ballot. For a list of acceptable forms of identification, visit vaughan.ca/elections.

Can I register to vote on someone’s behalf or elect someone to vote on my behalf?
Yes, but a voting proxy only applies on Voting Day by a paper ballot and tabulator. An elector may not be appointed as a proxy for online voting during the Advance Vote. An eligible elector on the Voters' List may appoint another eligible elector on the Voters' List to act as a voting proxy to cast a ballot in-person on their behalf on Voting Day.

To elect a voting proxy, you must fill out two copies of the Appointment for Voting Proxy form (PDF). Application forms must be submitted by the voting proxy in advance of Voting Day, in-person at Vaughan City Hall in the Office of the City Clerk, located on the first floor.

The person who appointed the proxy is not required to go with the voting proxy to the Clerk’s office. The voting proxy must have copies of the voter’s identification and present the two signed copies of the form at the Clerk’s office (or another location designated by the Clerk) during the hours of 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., now until Thursday, Oct. 20, or between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21.
