Nominate them for the 2021 Order of Vaughan!

Recognizing extraordinary acts of public service – this is what the City’s annual Order of Vaughan award does. It is the highest honour the City may bestow on an individual who is dedicated to bettering the city, advocating for the community and bringing about positive change. If this sounds like someone you know, nominate them for consideration.

The City is accepting nominations for the 2021 Order of Vaughan until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10, 2021. Nominees can be recognized in the following categories: accessibility, arts and entertainment, athletics, business, education, environment, equity and diversity, health and wellness, media and communications, not-for-profit, philanthropy, public service, science and technology and spirituality.

To be eligible, a nominee must be a living person at the time of nomination and have dedicated their time, talent and resources for the betterment of Vaughan. An individual does not need to reside in Vaughan to be eligible. Nominations will not be accepted for staff currently employed by the City of Vaughan or for current elected public office holders at the federal, provincial or municipal level. Self-nominations will also not be accepted. View additional eligibility criteria and the online application package at vaughan.ca/OrderOfVaughan.

Once the nomination period closes, the Order of Vaughan Selection Committee will review submissions and recommend successful candidates to Council for approval. The 2021 Order will be presented by Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council during an official investiture ceremony later this year. Event details will be posted to vaughan.ca/OrderOfVaughan once confirmed.

The Order of Vaughan was first launched by Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua in 2016 to mark Vaughan’s 25th anniversary. The award was created to pay tribute to individuals who have made a meaningful impact on Vaughan’s civic life and dedicate their time and talents to the city’s ongoing success. In its first year, 25 recipients were invested into the Order. In subsequent years – and for 2021 – up to 10 nominees may be eligible to receive the award. Since its inception, 46 remarkable individuals have been invested, including:
  • Avi Abraham Benlolo – Equity and Diversity
  • Dr. Franca Damiani Carella – Health and Wellness
  • Alessia Dickson – Arts and Entertainment
  • Noor Din – Not-For-Profit
  • Mary Reali – Public Service
  • Daniele Zanotti – Not-For-Profit
