Upgrades are coming to Woodbridge Avenue
A virtual Public Information Session is being held on Sept. 15 for citizens to learn more
Upgrades are coming to the Woodbridge Avenue corridor. Underground infrastructure work will also take place at the same time. Want to hear what’s being planned for the area? Join a virtual Public Information Session on Wednesday, Sept. 15 to learn more about the next phase of this project. Details and registration are available at vaughan.ca/WoodbridgeAve.

Woodbridge Avenue is a commercial and residential street located in the heart of Woodbridge Village. The Woodbridge Avenue corridor and the surrounding area – from Islington Avenue to Kipling Avenue – have been rapidly changing in the last decade with high-density development, including residential and mixed-use buildings, resulting in a larger urbanized area.
The Woodbridge Avenue Streetscape Plan (PDF) was completed in 2017 to address this growth and ensure the design of Woodbridge Avenue continues to be safe, accessible, inviting and timeless. This plan guides future development as part of the Woodbridge Avenue Improvements and Streetscaping Project, providing a guideline for the layout and detailed design of the public and private streetscape spaces, including pedestrian connections. Under this framework, the design will:
- promote walking and transit use.
- reduce conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles.
- support daily community life and events.
- capture inspirational, educational and heritage elements.
- build on the convenient access to the trail along the Humber River system.
As part of this process, an extensive review of the infrastructure on Woodbridge Avenue was also undertaken in 2020 to prioritize what needed to be completed, and in what order, including:
- road rehabilitation
- watermain replacements
- sanitary sewer upgrades
- streetlighting improvements
- traffic signal additions
- parking lay-bys (designated paved parking areas)
- streetscape and landscape enhancements
Both infrastructure and streetscape work will be completed at the same time to minimize future disruptions. Pending approvals, the detailed design work is expected to be completed by the end of 2021 and construction is expected to begin in early 2022 with anticipated completion by summer 2023. While Woodbridge Avenue is being improved, it will still be open for business! Citizens are encouraged to continue to support local stores, restaurants and organizations throughout the project. Once the improvements are complete, they will appropriately service the existing and future residents and businesses in the Woodbridge Village for years to come.
Public input and engagement on this project have been integral since 2015 – and the City is once again encouraging citizens to get involved in the next phase. Register at vaughan.ca/WoodbridgeAve to attend a virtual Public Information Session on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. and:
- view the proposed plans and streetscape design concepts.
- learn about the project’s status and timelines.
- hear about the next steps of the project.
- participate in a live question-and-answer period with the project team.
The session, to be held via Zoom, will include a live presentation. For those who are unable to attend, the presentation and all related materials will be available online on the project webpage as of Friday, Sept. 17.
For project details and registration information, visit vaughan.ca/WoodbridgeAve. A link to join the session will be provided to all who register in advance. Citizens are also encouraged to forward written comments or questions before the session to the project consultant by email to mai-linh.ho@ibigroup.com.
