Vaughan Achieves Heart Wise Designation
June 18, 2014
The City of Vaughan’s Recreation and Culture department was recognized at Council on June 17, 2014 for receiving the Heart Wise designation by the GTA Heart Wise Exercise Network.
The designation was awarded for a number of City-operated fitness classes and aquafit programs that integrate mainstream local programming with the various interests and physical abilities of those with cardiovascular and chronic conditions. All designated programs will be identified with a Heart Wise Exercise logo on promotional material, including posters, the bi-annual Recreation Guide and at vaughan.ca.
The Heart Wise Exercise Program (HWEP) aims to raise awareness and support physically active lifestyles for people of all abilities. To achieve Heart Wise designation, recipients must meet specific criteria set by the HWEP.
Vaughan’s Active Together Physical Activity Strategy serves as a foundation for the wide variety of facilities and opportunities offered by the City to enhance the quality of life in the community. Each year, 4 million visitors to Vaughan’s 10 community centres experience exercise at a safe level with options for modifying intensity as desired. The City of Vaughan operates six fitness centres, 10 pools, five outdoor skating rinks, bocce courts, gymnasiums and activity spaces.
