Vaughan and Metrolinx Announce Planning Process Underway for Future Transit Opportunities

Oct. 10, 2014

The City of Vaughan is working with Metrolinx on a planning process that will examine future development of a “complete community” in the lands bound by Jane Street, Kirby Road, Keele Street and Teston Road. Achieving complete communities in approved areas is a key priority for the future growth of Vaughan as they focus on the livability of the neighbourhood and ensure people and transportation needs are central.

Today, Vaughan MPP Steven Del Duca provided the City with an update and announced that the planning process for this new community, which is set to begin next year, will provide a special opportunity to consider future transit infrastructure, including a potential new GO Station that could serve as a mobility hub and a focal point for a new complete community.

The City will examine innovative ways to incorporate features and amenities that provide residents with opportunities to work, play and live close to home — a complete community. This will include residential space, various modes of transportation, employment opportunities and access to local food, services and recreation.

Vaughan and Metrolinx are working together with landowners to integrate these municipal and civic infrastructure projects into the planned community to promote the development of a sustainable, vibrant, transit-oriented community that will in turn support transit ridership growth.

Vaughan and Metrolinx will be seeking contributions from the private sector to help finance the project.
