Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua is appealing to Vaughan residents to vote online for a local soccer team in their bid to become BMO Team of the Week 2012 Champion.

The Kleinburg Nobleton Soccer Club Boys 2000 Lions are among 15 finalists vying to be crowned BMO champion. The team with the most votes will receive the Grand Prize of $125,000 toward a community soccer field renovation, and a team trip to watch either a Canadian Major League Soccer or Canadian National Team home match.

"I want to encourage all Vaughan residents to go online and vote for this team," said Mayor Bevilacqua. "This is a special group of young players who helped establish a foundation to raise money to support a teammate who was diagnosed with leukemia. They are an inspiration to our community and need our support."

If the Kleinburg Nobleton Soccer Club wins, it will be the second consecutive year a soccer team from Vaughan has won the competition. In 2011, the Glen Shields Sun Devils 2000 under-11 girls soccer team became the first-ever BMO Team of the Week Champion.

Voting ends Monday, August 27.
