Vaughan Celebrates Canada Day with Platinum Blonde
Thousands of residents came out to celebrate Canada’s 145th birthday and enjoy the music of Platinum Blonde at the City of Vaughan’s Canada Day celebrations on Sunday, July 1 at Mackenzie Glen District Park in Maple.
“Canada Day is a day that allows us to show our pride and our patriotism,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “As Canadians we are well aware that we are a blessed people and that we have much to be grateful for. We are fortunate to live in a country where the spirit of generosity, compassion, understanding, tolerance and optimism are the values that shape our nation and indeed our great City.”
Presented by TD and event sponsor CN, this family-oriented day featured free stage entertainment by Vaughan’s talented young rising stars Bridge 6 and Talk. The music continued with JRDN, who opened for the headliners, 80’s pop icons Platinum Blonde.
This year’s Canada Day celebration included an online contest to win an exclusive Canada Day experience including reserved side-stage seating for two, VIP hospitality, and a special meet and greet with Platinum Blonde or JRDN. Residents were urged to ‘like’ the City of Vaughan's Recreation & Culture Facebook page and 'Join' the Canada Day event listing to be automatically entered in the contest draw.
“Vaughan’s Canada Day celebration is always a summer highlight for residents and visitors,” said City Manager Clayton Harris. “This annual event takes months of planning and I want to congratulate City staff for their hard work in putting together another memorable event, and thank our sponsors for making it possible.”
Other Canada Day activities included a free Tim Hortons inflatable zone, face painting, pizza making workshop, and water park.
