Vaughan Celebrates First Outdoor Spinathon in Support of Fee Assistance Program

May 26, 2014

The City of Vaughan’s sixth annual Vaughan RecAssist event was held on May 24 at the Maple Community Centre.

For the first time, an Outdoor Spinathon raised funds in support of the RecAssist program. Fitness staff from all six Vaughan fitness centres led 82 participants in a three-hour cycling event that raised $4,500.

The RecAssist Fee Assistance Program subsidizes the cost of Recreation and Culture programs for low-income individuals and families in the City of Vaughan, helping to create and foster an environment of co-operation and inclusiveness. The program receives donations from individuals, local businesses, service clubs, community groups and City staff.

Donations to RecAssist ensure that Vaughan residents of every income level have access to quality active living opportunities and experiences. All administrative costs are covered by the City allowing 100 per cent of contributions to support programs such as helping a child learn a life-saving skill, assisting a youth in taking leadership courses for future employment options, or creating a positive visual arts program experience for seniors, among others.

RecAssist donations are accepted online at vaughan.ca/Donate2Rec, in person at any community centre or by calling the Recreation and Culture department at 905-832-8500.
