Vaughan Celebrates Italian Heritage Month

Italian Heritage Month will be celebrated in the City of Vaughan with a number of activities. The Province of Ontario declared June as Italian Heritage Month in 2010 to celebrate the contributions of the Italian Canadian community.
This year’s activities include –
- Flag-raising ceremony – the National Congress of Italian Canadians and the City of Vaughan will hold a flag-raising ceremony on June 3, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at City Hall in the civic square. The official ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m.
- Exhibition by Salvatore Gallo and Giuseppe Pivetta – an exhibition of artwork entitled Vintage Vistas: Paintings by Salvatore Gallo and Giuseppe Pivetta will be on display in the main atrium On the Slate gallery at City Hall. Both artists are accomplished painters of Italian descent who have chronicled nostalgic vistas of vanishing rural landscapes and memorable urban street scenes in Vaughan and York Region. The exhibition will be on display from June 2 to Sept. 5, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Golden Age Academy exhibitions – the Golden Age Academy of artists will showcase artwork in the main atrium at City Hall during the month of June. As well, a variety of two- and three-dimensional works of art and crafts will be on display at Vaughan Arts Space, Maple Community Centre, 10190 Keele St., from July 4 to Sept. 5. Exhibition hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
