Vaughan Celebrates Recreation and Parks Month With Free Activities

The City of Vaughan is offering free drop-in leisure activities at community centres and parks across Vaughan from June 1 to 30 to celebrate Recreation and Parks Month.
 
There will be a variety of activities during Recreation and Parks Month geared to all ages, abilities and interests: 
  • Parent and preschoolers: open gym featuring soccer, hockey and a fitness obstacle course, sportsarama, Tae kwon do, toddler run and fun with games and activities 

  • Children and youth: 2Ball, three-on-three basketball and dodge ball tournaments, archery, aquafitness, youth versus staff basketball face-off, games room, open fitness and open gym sports, outdoor boot camp, Tae kwon do and Zumba in the park 

  •  Adults: ball hockey, pickle ball and drop-in volleyball programs

  • Older adults: arthritis fitness, gentle yoga and Tai Chi
 
Recreation and Parks Month also offers a variety of family-oriented programs and activities such as family Zumba, family day at the Maple Nature Reserve, outdoor family boot camp, parent and child badminton, and the 20th anniversary Concerts in the Park series on June 11 and 18.  
 
Vaughan fitness centres will run specialty fitness classes for those 13 years of age and older, and hold a day for members to bring a guest for free. City of Vaughan swimming pools, including Thornhill Outdoor Pool, which opens for the season on Saturday, June 28, will offer leisure swims, water games and competitions during events.
                                                                                                                       
Vaughan’s Recreation and Parks Month supports the City’s Active Together Physical Activity Strategy, which aims to increase physical activity levels of Vaughan residents by 10 per cent and reduce “screen time” by 10 per cent by the year 2020.
