Vaughan Community Centres Offer Free Activities on Family Day

On Monday, Feb. 17, participating City of Vaughan recreation facilities will be hosting free Family Day drop-in activities including open gym, indoor soccer, b-ball zone and family and youth games rooms.
 
Fitness centres will be hosting free fitness activities all day. Family Day classes include powercycling, powercycling and abs, family yoga, family Pilates, family boot camp and Zumba fitness. Participants must be 13 years or older. Participants under 18 require signed parental or guardian consent. The Maple Fitness Centre is hosting the special needs program Shape Your Body, which includes weight training, co-ordination, balance and core-conditioning exercises for individuals with disabilities. In addition to regularly scheduled recreation programs and lessons, sports enthusiasts can enjoy various activities including basketball, futsal, soccer and glow-in-the-dark bowling at the Maple bowling alley. Other specialty programs include Quick Creations, Parent and Child Just for Kicks Soccer, Family Treasure Hunt and Olympic Family Challenge. Computer animation and video-game creation programs are also available; register at vaughan.kidsgreatminds.org. Games rooms, featuring entertainment such as Wii, Xbox, pool tables, foosball, air hockey and ping pong, are open at varying times for families and youth.
 
Free recreational ice skating, sponsored by Tim Hortons, is available at Al Palladini, Garnet A. Williams and Maple arenas from noon to 2 p.m. Supervised skating at outdoor rinks is also available during scheduled times. Recreational swimming and aquafitness are provided throughout the day at a nominal fee.
