Vaughan Declares Interest In Hosting World-Class Cultural And Entertainment District

May 29, 2013

Vaughan Council has declared its interest in hosting an integrated cultural and entertainment district including a gaming complex. Council voted to notify the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. of its interest.

“Building a world-class cultural and entertainment district in the City of Vaughan is consistent with our mission to create and expand opportunities for our citizens. Council’s decision reflects our commitment to becoming a key economic development driver of the GTA by creating jobs, encouraging investment and pursuing opportunities that will enhance our quality of life and standard of living,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua.

City staff have recommended two potential locations for the gaming complex: the provincially owned land at the 407 subway station and the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre.

The OLG will begin the process to select a preferred operator in 2013, with an award in 2014. If Vaughan is chosen to host the GTA facility, the next steps will involve initiating the planning application process with the OLG and the gaming operator.
