Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council, fire Chief Larry Bentley, Interim City Manager Barbara Cribbett, along with friends and family members, welcomed 30 new firefighters at a special ceremony at the Trio Sportsplex in Vaughan on Jan. 15.

“I offer my sincere congratulations to all of the new firefighters who are joining the Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service,” said Mayor Bevilacqua. “These graduates are joining a dedicated group of men and women who are committed to protecting our community and keeping it safe. I am proud of the firefighters we have in Vaughan who not only respond to emergencies, but remain active members of this community through volunteering, outreach initiatives and fire safety education.”

Mayor Bevilacqua participated in the presentation of the certificates to the graduates for their completion of the 14-week Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service Recruit Training Program. The Mayor and Members of Council, along with fire Chief Bentley, also honoured recent promotions within the fire service. Newly-appointed officers were presented with their designated helmets by the fire chief and Mayor Bevilacqua.

“These new firefighters are beginning an exciting career of public service,” said fire Chief Bentley. “As firefighters, we are there for the community every day and respond to emergencies around the clock. It is our role to serve the people of Vaughan and provide a safe and secure community.”

The more than 300 members of the Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service work out of 10 stations.
