Vaughan Fire Chief Larry Bentley announces retirement

The City of Vaughan’s Fire Chief Larry Bentley is retiring after more than 38 years of exceptional public service. His last day as Vaughan’s Fire Chief will be May 31, 2018.

Chief Bentley is a seasoned veteran of the Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service (VFRS). After joining the VFRS in 1979, Chief Bentley was promoted to the rank of captain in 1990, platoon chief in 1996, deputy fire chief in 2006 and fire chief in 2013.

Chief Bentley was the first Vaughan firefighter to be promoted to the role of fire chief, which speaks to his demonstrated leadership, deep commitment for the men and women in uniform and his love for his community.
 
The City of Vaughan will undertake a recruitment process for the hiring of a new Fire Chief of Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service.

  • Chief Bentley holds a Masters Certificate in Municipal Management from the Schulich School of Business, a Fire and Safety Planning Executive Development Diploma, a Fire Protection Technology Diploma and a Command II Diploma from the Ontario Fire College, and a Fire Protection Systems Certificate from Seneca College.
