Members can borrow exercise
equipment during facility closures
As part of the City of Vaughan’s ongoing efforts to provide the community with resources to stay active from home during the COVID-19 pandemic, Recreation Services is offering fitness equipment packages for loan to current Vaughan Fitness members over the age of 18 for the duration of the current facility closures.
As part of the City of Vaughan’s ongoing efforts to provide the community with resources to stay active from home during the COVID-19 pandemic, Recreation Services is offering fitness equipment packages for loan to current Vaughan Fitness members over the age of 18 for the duration of the current facility closures.
Members can choose
between a light or heavy package (while quantities last, limit of one package
per household) and the program is free of charge – all that is required at the
time of booking is a security deposit. Equipment includes hand weights, resistance
bands, tubes, gliders, aerobic step platforms and risers.
All equipment comes
prepackaged and has been individually inspected, cleaned and disinfected. It is
available through contactless curbside pickup at the community centre specified
at the time of booking. Once the booking is completed, a staff member will be
in contact to provide further information, including next steps, pickup
arrangements and return process.

Registration for the
program is underway and available through the online Registration Portal at reconline.ca. Vaughan Fitness
members who are 18 years of age or older are eligible to participate. For more

ZOOM-a-THON
On Wednesday, Nov. 4
from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., join the Vaughan Fitness team and take part in a
two-hour ZOOM-a-THON featuring six back-to-back 20-minute fitness classes. It starts
with a Zumba warm-up, followed by a total body conditioning, interval training,
hi-lo steps and Tabata, and ends with a cool down stretch. Participation is
free for members and non-members with donations provided for RecAssist – the
City’s recreation fee assistance program for low-income individuals and
families. The top donor will win a prize pack featuring a one-month fitness
membership and swag bag. Pre-registration
is required and participants must be 13 years and older. The deadline to

Recreation Services
virtual programming
Until Saturday, Oct. 31, the department
is offering one-day online Halloween programs for children and youth ages six
to 15, so they can celebrate the holiday from the safety of home. Programs include
a Halloween make-up tutorial, no-carve pumpkin decorating and a ‘Halloweekend
Party,’ which features a virtual haunted house, costume contest, dancing,
scavenger hunt and creepy crafts. A modified version of the ‘Halloweekend
Party’ will also be led by integration counsellors for children with special
needs. Programs are 1.5 hours in length and cost $8.

Frequent enhancements are also made to
the Recreation Services department’s webpage featuring virtual resources for all ages, abilities and areas of
interest. Popular resources include:
- Vaughan Playschool educational reading, writing, math and science worksheets for children aged three to five years old.
- easy-to-follow at-home workouts from Vaughan Fitness instructors featured on Recreation Services’ Instagram TV. Full-length classes are also posted to the Recreation Vaughan YouTube channel.
- general activities such as cooking, arts and crafts, colouring and more.
