Vaughan Helps Drive Entrepreneurship and Innovation During Small Business Week

Oct. 16, 2013

The City of Vaughan will celebrate Small Business Week beginning Oct. 21 with up to 20 different free seminars and workshops across the City. This year’s small business week theme, Transformation Grows Business, will offer business resources and program benefits for business owners in all stages of growth.

“Small business is the backbone of a successful city and this week is a celebration of small business owners whose innovation, creativity and job creation have made significant contributions to our community,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “There is a strong entrepreneurial spirit in Vaughan and we have long valued the importance of entrepreneurs in driving the local economy and our overall prosperity. We are proud to support and encourage small business owners because their innovative spirit brings new concepts and ideas to the marketplace.”

Small Business Week, which runs from Oct. 21 to Oct. 25, is supported by the Ministry of Economic Development Trade and Employment. This year’s event in Vaughan is hosted by local business associations, chambers and non-profit organizations which include the Vaughan Business Enterprise Centre (VBEC), Vaughan Chamber of Commerce, COSTI Immigrant Services, Welcome Centre, Next Steps Employment Centre and Vaughan Public Libraries.

Highlights of Small Business Week include a kickoff event at City Hall, as well as Youth Entrepreneurship Night, an evening dedicated to youth considering entrepreneurship as a career; Finance Night, which is focused on removing barriers in business through discovering government financing programs; Make Your Home Business a Success, featuring a panel of experts who have mastered the art of profitability in home business; Dress for Success, connecting your professional image with business success; and Media Night, networking with Vaughan’s media partners and learning how media can help a small business grow.
