Vaughan Keeps Warming Centre Open Over Christmas

The City of Vaughan will be keeping the warming centre at Dufferin Clark Community Centre, 1441 Clark Ave. W., open over Christmas or until all power is restored for residents seeking overnight accommodations.

The City continues to receive many reports about downed trees and branches on public property. The City is responding to these calls on a priority basis, focusing on those that pose hazards. To report a downed tree, call 905-832-2281 (press 0 for dispatch).

Residents should expect delays in lower priority tree cleanup, including parks, woodlots, open spaces and non-hazardous residential and commercial areas. Whenever possible, please avoid woodlots, trails, parks and open spaces until these areas have been fully addressed and any hazards removed. Caution should be taken when moving around these areas as ice and branches are still likely to fall.

For residents directly affected by the power outage, it is important not to operate propane, natural gas or charcoal barbecues inside the home or garage due to the danger of carbon monoxide poisoning. Do not use a stove or camping gear for heating a home or garage, as they also pose a carbon monoxide poisoning and burn hazard. Make sure your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors are working properly. Take special care with candles, positioning them away from combustibles, and it is better to use a flashlight rather than a candle for light.
