Vaughan Participates in Trade Mission to Italy to Promote International Business
The City of Vaughan is participating in the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Ontario (ICCO) Trade Mission to Italy to explore new business opportunities in the Clean Technology and Green Technology sectors and increase the City’s international profile.
“Our goal is to make Vaughan a world-class city and increase our presence on the international stage,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “Building and maintaining strong business relations is vital for Vaughan to sustain a competitive advantage in today’s global economy. Italy is showing itself as a leader when it comes to green industry and in Vaughan, we are working to attract, nurture and grow the next generation of economic activities for our growing community.”
The 17-member delegation will travel to Italy from September 21 to October 3. It will include business people, ICCO officials, and delegates from the City of Vaughan – Mayor Bevilacqua, Ward 3 Councillor Rosanna DeFrancesca, City Manager Clayton Harris, Executive Director Tim Simmonds and Assistant to the Mayor, Michelle DeBuono.
The mission will focus on Milan and Rome. A number of business meetings have been pre-arranged with Italian businesses and their local Chambers of Commerce. The mission will also include high level meetings with government officials, including; the President of the Province of Milan; the Mayor of Rome; and the President of the Rome Chamber of Commerce. Other planned activities include a tour of the development surrounding the new Turino subway with transportation officials and roundtable business discussions focused on Vaughan’s business and investment opportunities.
“The City of Vaughan has significant investment opportunities tied to specific employment areas of the City, most notably the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and the Vaughan Enterprise Zone,” said City Manager Clayton Harris. “Marketing these areas locally and globally is part of the economic development strategy and critical for the development of the local economy, creating jobs and direct and indirect economic spinoffs for other industries and the community.”
