The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) has chosen two City of Vaughan publications as winners of its 2011 Excellence in Economic Development Awards. Vaughan e-Business Link placed first in the category of newsletter/newspaper and, Vaughan Building a Gateway to Tomorrow’s Economy won in the category of special purpose brochure.

“As awards that recognize the world’s best economic development programs and marketing materials, the City of Vaughan is honoured to have received two of them,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “We have a strong and diversified business base in Vaughan and strive to keep them updated on city programs and initiatives that are of benefit to them. These awards are a manifestation of our commitment to transform the City of Vaughan into a world-class city."

The City of Vaughan’s awards were for Excellence in Economic Development for communities with populations of 200,000 to 500,000. IEDC is the world’s largest professional organization for economic development practitioners. There are more than 4,500 members across the United States, as well as Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and other nations.

The electronic newsletter, Vaughan e-Business Link, was developed and launched in June 2010 by the City of Vaughan as a part of its business out-reach and retention program. The 16-page brochure, Vaughan Building a Gateway to Tomorrow’s Economy, was produced to accompany the City’s 10-year Economic Development Strategy. The latest marketing technologies were implemented in the executive summary, using quick response codes (barcodes) placed strategically to reference specific sections of the strategy. The quick response codes allow smart-phone users to view online content of the strategy on the City’s website.

“I am proud of the commitment and dedication of our Economic Development staff in providing best-in-class economic development services,” said City Manager Clayton Harris. “The Chair of the IEDC recognized Vaughan as being at the forefront of the economic development profession for utilizing innovative and effective practices.”
